Why we recommend

DT 770 PRO

Closed-back studio headphones that have been on desks since before Bluetooth was a feature. The 80-ohm version runs off a laptop and still sounds like a real pair of cans.

Wireless is fine for the walk. At the desk you want a cable, a replaceable pad, and headphones that will outlive the laptop they are plugged into.

02 · Desk

Light on the desk, none on the screen.

Skip the desk lamp entirely.

Why we recommend

Quntis light bar

A light bar that hangs on the monitor and lights the desk, not the screen. Auto-dimming means you stop reaching over to fix the cave every time a cloud moves.

A regular desk lamp fights the display and leaves a hot spot on the keyboard. This one takes no surface and costs less than replacing the cheap lamp twice.

Everyday Case plated on a matte ceramic dish with a paprika-red linen napkin and a sprig of dried flowers

03 · Phone

A case that mounts to bikes, cars and tripods.

Skip the clear case that yellows.

    Why we recommend

    Everyday Case

Peak Design treats the case like a mount, not a sleeve. The same lock clicks onto a bike, a car vent, a tripod, or a sling, so the phone is part of the kit.

Clear cases yellow and offer nothing but a scratch. If you already carry Peak hardware, this is the case that makes the rest of it useful on day one.

    04 · Home

Ten years old and still the one people recommend.

    Skip the app-only purifiers.

    Why we recommend

    Airmega Mighty

A decade on and it is still the purifier people tell friends to buy. Real buttons, a filter you can find, and a noise floor that lets it run in a bedroom.

App-only towers look newer and fail when the account does. Mighty just cleans the room, and that is the whole job of a box in the corner.

    05 · Wild-card

    A1

    $299.99

The printer that prints instead of asking to be tuned.

Skip the kit you assemble yourself.

    Why we recommend

    A1

Bambu made the 3D printer that prints instead of asking you to become a technician. The A1 is the one you unbox, load, and use the same evening.

Kits you assemble yourself are a hobby before they are a tool. If you want a part on the desk tomorrow, start with a machine that already knows how to print.
